Massaging your face with jade for firmer and more youthful skin?
Yep… I’m in.
And have you noticed? Its not just me… The use of Jade Rollers has become quite the trend.
So what’s this all about?
Is massaging your face with Jade Stone Tools something that’s really beneficial on both a skincare and spiritual level?
Or are Jade Rollers just another Instagram fad and short-term trend?
Let’s dive in.
Why Jade Rollers?
From a skincare perspective… And we’ll look at the spiritual properties in a moment… Jade facial rollers and Gua Sha Massage tools both work in a similar way.
By massaging your face with Jade, it is said that you can increase circulation, minimize fine lines, promote lymphatic drainage, detoxify your skin, reduce puffiness and inflammation, improve elasticity and even help skincare products like serums and moisturizers to better penetrate your skin.
Powerful claims, though there are no real clinical studies to validate them… There are however TONS of testimonials and rave reviews about the benefits of working with these tools.
Where do Jade Rollers come from?
The Origin of Jade Rollers
Real Jade Rollers definitely aren’t a short-term fad, because their use dates back all the way to 7th Century China!
In Ancient China, dating back all the way to the 4th Century, stone medicine was a huge part of traditional Daoist Medicine.
Jade was and is one of the most revered, and valuable stones used in Stone Medicine healing applications.
In ancient times Jade was considered to be a Royal stone and was literally referred to as a “stone from heaven”, its value compared to that of Gold or Diamonds today.
In Daoist Stone Medicine, Jade is said to support deep internal healing in a way that can slow down cellular aging, absorb toxins from the blood and energy, strengthen vitality, and support the bodies natural healing powers.
Jade has a long history of use in China to support and maintain perfect health and beauty.
Jade’s Spiritual Properties
Jade is presented as having 5 Virtues:
Working with Jade can support us in developing these virtues within ourselves that support the betterment of all life on the planet.
She shares: “A stone of Wisdom, Jade promotes Longevity and quietude.”
Real Jade can be a wonderful stone ally, supporting us in bringing our light and wisdom to the world.
But there’s a couple of VERY important things you need to know before you jump in and order any ole roller.
Most Jade Rollers Are FAKE!
Jade is becoming increasingly rare, and therefore valuable. That combined with our societies obsession with CHEAP has led to manufacturers mastering the art of creating FAKE Jade.
Common practices include dying, chemically altering (usually by injecting plastic polymers), exposing to radiation (to change color), and using other toxic treatments to alter real stones like marble, serpentine, or aventurine to replicate Jade.
As you can likely guess, this harsh treatment completely destroys the subtle beneficial energies of stones, and renders your Jade Roller useless from a vibrational perspective.
Fake Jade Rollers can still have some benefit as a facial massage tool. If chilled, the fake Jade Roller can still offer benefits to reduce inflammation, support lymphatic drainage and increase circulation.
But, if you’re looking to ally with Jade for spiritual and vibrational purposes, to support your spiritual awakening and conscious expansion, as well as tone your face, you’re going to want to AVOID fakes.
So how do you tell if a roller is fake?
Its honestly challenging to do… And since there are so many fakes on the market, I feel the only way is to know if you’re getting a real jade roller is to know your source!
And by know your source, I mean literally asking the seller where and how they sourced the Jade for their rollers…
Because, sadly today even if its real Jade, it doesn’t mean its an ethical choice to purchase.
Much of the Real Jade on the Market Is Incredibly Unethical!
Real Jade is becoming increasingly rare and valuable… And so fake Jade is not the only type of Jade you need to avoid… I highly recommend AVOIDING Jade sourced from Myanmar/ Burma.
The Jade mining industry in Myanmar /Burma is completely inhumane.
In Stone of Heaven, the authors outline the absolutely miserable mining conditions and how the Myanmar government brutalizes its people, pays slave workers in heroin, and otherwise destroys the lives of Thousands to mine Jade for a profit.
Real, Ethically Sourced Jade Rollers
As you might have guessed… I’ve done some of this research for you.
In searching for a real jade roller for myself, I found many fakes, but then I did find a great option for genuine and ethically sourced Jade Skincare tools.
I personally own both a Real Jade Roller, and a Jade Gua Sha Lifting tool from this company. And as a side note, their organic skincare products happen to be my new favorites too!
How to Use A Jade Roller
One of the best things about using a Jade Roller, and even a Gua Sha Tool to Massage your face is that its EASY!
Whether you have a quick minute before bed, or ten-minutes as a part of a lavish self care ritual… There's really no wrong way to use it.
Roll the Jade over your face, neck and forehead in the way that feels good to you.
Some best practices are to use an upward motion as you roll, pay attention to areas that store tension like the forehead, jaw, and eyebrows.. and enjoy!
Cleansing and Charging Your Jade Roller
One final thing to keep in mind about adding a Real Jade Roller into your skincare and spiritual practice regime is that it needs regular cleansing.
You can learn more about cleansing crystals here.
Or… Know that Jade is a stone which responds well to soaking overnight in salt water to cleanse its energy.
With so much love,
