Spiritual Halloween. What’s the Real Meaning of All Hallows Eve?
There is a deeper spiritual significance that underlies the mainstream holiday of Halloween.
Halloween’s origin can be traced back to the ancient Celts who celebrated the time around October 31st with a festival known as Samhain (pronounced Sow-in).
Samhain was the final harvest festival of the season, celebrated at the exact point between the Fall Equinox, and Winter Solstice (Right around October 31st though the exact cross-quarter date for 2022 is November 7th)
Gateway to the Winter Months
In ancient times, Samhain marked the end of the growing season and the entrance into the winter months. It was observed as a powerful turning point in the wheel of the year which represents the cycle of life, death, and rebirth the Earth journeys through every year.
Samhain is directly across from Beltane on the Wheel of the Year. So if you're in the Southern Hemisphere, the energetic influence is a bit different for you now, and you can read about Beltane here to learn more about the energetics of where you are now.
In the wheel of the year cycle; Samhain is the time of death.
The time of year when trees shed their leaves, animals go into hibernation, and the days grow short and cold as we move into the winter months and a more inwardly focused period of rest, and stillness.
Samhain is a celebration of the ending of a cycle, and entrance into the dark half of the year. Darkness represents the unknown, the void, the subconscious mind, the realm of intuition, and all we cannot logically see or comprehend.
Samhain is also a time when the veils between the realms of the living and the afterlife are said to be thin. Learn more about the thinning of the veil here.
The ancient Celts celebrated this time with rituals to face and even celebrate death as a natural part of life. It was also a time to honor the ancestors, those souls residing in the afterlife, and to gain insight into the darker hidden realms of the subconscious.
In integrating and accepting the dark, the knowledge and power of the light is also renewed.
The Spiritual Significance of Halloween Today
Now that you know the earliest history of Halloween…
I want to share a little perspective of how you can add a spiritual dimension to your Halloween celebrations today.
With Halloween being a celebration of the ending of a cycle and the death of what has been…
It’s a powerful time to honor and release what all has died and been removed from your reality.
Release and Let Go!
The time on and around Halloween is a perfect opportunity to release and let go.
Consciously release lower emotions, outdated patterns, and energies tied to past situations, thoughts, and limiting programs.
Letting go also includes taking the time to honor and release all that you have achieved in the past year.
Just as can be seen by the trees who are modeling this for us now by losing their leaves: When you shed and let go of all that has been, and let what has been completed die and fall away you create an opening and tap into the power of the cycles of life, death and rebirth. Releasing the old is a key step in making way for creative possibilities and new opportunities to emerge.
Connect with The Realms of Spirit
Halloween is a time in which the spirit world is perceived as being more active. This is not exactly the case, though it is a time when the veil between the physical and spiritual realm is thin so we can become more aware of the activity happening in the realms of spirit.
This makes Halloween the perfect time to consciously tune into the realms of spirit.
This is a powerful time for heightening intuition.
With awareness now, you can access your natural psychic abilities to connect with the guidance and insight of your guides, angels, spiritual lineage, and ancestors.
You're always guided, but around Halloween, it can be even easier to tune in to the guidance from Spirit meant for you.
Clear your mind, tune into the force of love within, and ask:
“Angels, help me to clearly feel and know your presence in my life now. Help me to see my very best next steps so I may align with more joy, love and fulfillment in my life.”
Halloween and Psychic Protection
Because Halloween is a time in which the veils are thin, and many celebrate the holiday without awareness…
It’s a good idea to consciously keep your energy clear and protected around this time, which is really easy to do with a bit of awareness, love, and light.
This is especially important if you go to a Halloween party where people are drinking alcohol, or you go see a scary movie or attend a haunted house or somewhere that fear energies are being generated and called in, or where people are or focusing on the lower “spookier realms”.
Carry an amethyst stone, stay conscious and transmute any strange or discordant energy that arises with the power of the Violet Flame and higher light!
I do want to make one thing clear here, which is that Samhain is not a holiday to be feared!
It's just wise to give a little extra awareness towards consciously transmuting what no longer serves… Honoring your intuition, and honoring the incredible life beyond what we can see, and understand from our perspective as beings in the physical.
I see Halloween as a great opportunity to welcome the unknown, reflect, release, and bring a little extra magic and intuition into everyday life.
Maybe this year while you’re taking your kids trick-or-treating or passing out candy in your neighborhood you’ll remember:
Death is no barrier to love, and as the wheel of life turns, and death appears…
It is just paving the way for the next cycle of rebirth, where we're reset into an experience that's entirely new.
