15 Life-Changing Books for Emotional Healing and Personal Growth

Over the past decade of my own personal growth and emotional healing journey, I’ve read a lot of books.

In this, I’ve discovered that reading can be a truly powerful catalyst for transformation, emotional healing and personal growth.

The right book at the right time can truly be life changing.

Because of this, I’m inspired to share with you some of the books that I feel have been the most impactful for me in my healing journey.

Don't worry if not every book on this list speaks to you right now. That's perfectly okay! Instead, trust your intuition and see which 2 or 3 titles naturally catch your eye and pique your curiosity. Start with those and let your intuition guide you.

“The Untethered Soul” by Michael A. Singer:

“There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind – you are the one who hears it.”

I love this book, as it so beautifully book guides you on a journey to unleash your inner potential by letting go of limiting thoughts and emotions. Singer offers practical advice on how to quiet the mind, find inner peace, and live a more fulfilling life.

“Habits of a Happy Brain: Retrain Your Brain to Boost Your Serotonin, Dopamine, Oxytocin, & Endorphin Levels” by Loretta Graziano Breuning, PhD:

“FOUR HAPPY CHEMICALS Dopamine: the joy of finding what you seek Endorphin: the oblivion that masks pain Oxytocin: the comfort of social alliances Serotonin: the security of social importance”

With this book, it felt like I was finally receiving the guide on “how to operate the human brain”. In this book, Dr. Breuning explores the brain chemicals of happiness and offers practical strategies for optimizing your brain's natural feel-good chemicals. By understanding the role of serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins, you can develop habits that promote a more positive and resilient mindset.

“The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy:

“Busy your mind with the concepts of harmony, health, peace, and good will, and wonders will happen in your life.”

This book is a classic which explores the power of the subconscious mind and provides techniques for harnessing its potential to create positive change in your life. Learn how to reprogram your mind for success, happiness, and well-being.

“Letting Go: The Pathway to Surrender” by David R. Hawkins:

“The crucial point is: by changing ourselves, we change the world. As we become more loving on the inside, healing occurs on the outside. Much like the rising of the sea level lifts all ships, so the radiance of unconditional love within a human heart lifts all of life.”

I love this book so much I made a video about it you can watch here. Letting Go is life changing for overcoming blockages, and letting go of what's holding you back. Dr. Hawkins teaches that most negative emotions are due to suppressed and denied feelings, and releasing these through the process of surrender leads to greater peace and happiness. He employs practical techniques, combined with an in-depth exploration of emotional development, to facilitate personal transformation. In this book, you will learn about the various emotional states we experience, from apathy to love and enlightenment, as categorized by Hawkins's unique Map of Consciousness.

“Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy” by David D. Burns:

““Labeling yourself is not only self-defeating, it is irrational. Your self cannot be equated with any one thing you do. Your life is a complex and ever-changing flow of thoughts, emotions, and actions. To put it another way, you are more like a river than a statue. Stop trying to define yourself with negative labels”

This is one of those books that was quite simply the right book at the right time. The book provides practical techniques and exercises for identifying and challenging distorted thinking, such as all-or-nothing thinking, overgeneralization, and self-blame. Burns also offers strategies for improving self-esteem, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.

“How To Do The Work” By Dr. Nicole LePera:

“As we expand our level of conscious awareness, we can see that we are not our ego stories. Thoughts happen to us. They don’t mean anything about who we are. They’re simply our ego attempting to defend our identity and protect us from pain.”

In this book, Dr. Nicole LePera, known as “The Holistic Psychologist,” offers a practical framework for self-healing and personal growth. She guides you through the process of understanding your past, healing your present, and creating a more authentic and fulfilling future.

“You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay:

“In the infinity of life where I am,
All is perfect, whole and complete,
I no longer choose to believe in old limitations and lack, I now choose to begin to see myself
As the Universe sees me — perfect, whole, and complete.”

I read this book early on in my awakening journey, and found it to be such a powerful exploration of the connection between the mind and body. She offers affirmations and exercises for self-love, forgiveness, and healing, empowering you to take control of your emotional and physical well-being.

“Loving What Is” by Byron Katie:

“Wisdom is knowing I am nothing, love is knowing I am everything, and between the two my life moves.”

In this book Wayne Dyer translates the Tao Te Ching through his signature self-help style, and offers a sort of map for navigating life by aligning your thoughts and actions with your true essence. This book was my introduction to the Tao Te Ching really touched me when I read it.

“Power of Kabbalah” From the Teachings of Rav Berg:

“Love is a weapon of Light, and it has the power to eradicate all forms of darkness. That is the key. When we offer love even to our enemies, we destroy their darkness and hatred…”

The Power of Kabbalah is a transformative guide that distills the ancient wisdom of Kabbalah into a practical, life-changing framework to empower healing, and assistance in unlocking the door to abundance, purpose, and genuine happiness.

“It Didn't Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle” by Mark Wolynn:

“A life completely devoid of trauma, as we’re learning, is highly unlikely. Traumas do not sleep, even with death, but, rather, continue to look for the fertile ground of resolution in the children of the following generations. Fortunately, human beings are resilient and are capable of healing most types of trauma. This can happen at any time during our lives.”

This book explores the concept of intergenerational trauma and is a powerful access point for clearing unresolved family issues. Its approach is unconventional and provides tools for breaking the cycle of emotional pain. By understanding and healing our family history, we can transform our own lives and create a better future for generations to come.

“Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life” by Thich Nhat Hanh:

“Our senses are our windows to the world, and sometimes the wind blows through them and disturbs everything within us. Some of us leave our windows open all the time, allowing the sights and sounds of the world to invade us, penetrate us, and expose our sad, troubled selves.”

I love Peace Is Every Step and really everything from Thich Nhat Hahn and find his teachings to be so beautiful and true. This book offers a gentle introduction to mindfulness and its applications in daily life. Thich Nhat Hanh shares simple yet profound practices for cultivating peace, presence, and joy in every moment in a most eloquent and beautiful way.

“Ancestral Medicine: Rituals for Personal and Family Healing” by Daniel Foor, PhD

“When we reconcile with ancestors who experienced different types of persecution or who enacted violence and oppression, we make repairs in our personal psyches and family histories that, in turn, mend cracks in the larger spirit of humanity. This supports us in moving beyond identifying with victim/victimizer consciousness and in embodying what is beautiful and helpful from the past. Transforming generations of family and cultural pain also frees us to draw upon the support of the loving ancestors for prosperity in our vocation and service in the world.”

Ancestral Medicine delves into the healing power of ancestral connections and provides rituals for personal and family healing. By honoring and working with our ancestors, we can access deep wisdom and support for our own growth and transformation.

“Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One” by Dr. Joe Dispenza:

“A new state of being creates a new personality … a new personality produces a new personal reality. How will you know whether this meditative practice has activated your three brains to produce the intended effect? Simple: you will feel different as a result of investing in the process.”

Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself combines neuroscience and spirituality to offer a guide for rewiring your brain and creating lasting change. Joe Dispenza provides practical tools and exercises for breaking free from limiting patterns and creating a new, empowered version of yourself.

“Feeling Is The Secret” by Neville Goddard:

“Be careful of your moods and feelings, for there is an unbroken connection between your feelings and your visible world. Your body is an emotional filter and bears the unmistakable marks of your prevalent emotions.”

In this powerful book, Goddard explores the transformative power of our thoughts and feelings. He argues that by mastering our inner world, we can shape our external reality and manifest our deepest desires. This book offers a compelling introduction to the Law of Attraction and the art of conscious creation.
